At present the year is 2024 in the Gregorian calendar, but according to the calendar it is the year 2081. There is a difference of 57 years between the Gregorian calendar and the Hindu calendar. That means the calendar of Hindu tradition is 57 years ahead of the calendar of Western civilization.
History of Hindu Nav Varsh
According to religious belief and Brahman Purana, Lord Vishnu, the creator of the world, entrusted the responsibility of creation of the universe to Lord Brahma. It is believed that the day Brahma ji created the universe was the Pratipada day of Kartik Shukla. Therefore, this day is considered the first day of the year according to Hindu tradition.
