Stock Market Closing On 21 August 2024: After a day of upheaval, the Indian stock market closed with gains on Wednesday’s trading session. FMCG, consumer durables and pharma sector stocks have contributed significantly to this rise in the Indian markets. Buying was also seen in midcap stocks. At the end of today’s trading, the BSE Sensex closed at 80,905 with a jump of 102 points and the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed at 24,770 points with a gain of 71 points.
Rising and falling stocks
In today’s trade, out of 30 Sensex stocks, 17 closed with gains and 13 closed with losses. While out of 50 Nifty stocks, 36 stocks closed with gains and 14 closed with losses. Among the rising stocks, Titan closed with a gain of 2.36%, Asian Paints closed with a gain of 1.55%, Hindustan Unilever closed with a gain of 1.47%, ITC closed with a gain of 1.26%, Nestle closed with a gain of 1.18%, Bharti Airtel closed with a gain of 1.08%, JSW Steel closed with a gain of 1.04%, Bajaj Finserv closed with a gain of 0.98%, Axis Bank closed with a gain of 0.69%, Adani Ports closed with a gain of 0.68%, TCS closed with a gain of 0.64%. While among the falling stocks, UltraTech Cement closed with a loss of 1.51%, Tata Steel closed with a loss of 1.30%, Tech Mahindra closed with a loss of 1.21%, Power Grid closed with a loss of 0.91%, HDFC Bank closed with a loss of 0.74%.
Investors’ wealth boom
Due to the rise in the Indian stock market, there has been a huge jump in the wealth of investors. The market cap of the stocks listed on BSE has closed at Rs 459.27 lakh crore, which was Rs 456.86 lakh crore in the last session. That is, in today’s session, the wealth of investors has increased by Rs 2.41 lakh crore.
Sectoral Updates
The biggest gain in today’s trade was seen in FMCG stocks, due to which Nifty FMCG closed at 63,091 with a jump of 1.37 percent. There has been a great rise in the stocks of consumer durables, healthcare, oil and gas, pharma energy, media, metals and auto sectors. Whereas banking, IT, real estate stocks registered a decline. Nifty’s midcap and small-cap index closed with a great jump due to buying in mid-cap and small-cap stocks.
