Rajkumar Sharma on Sunil Gavaskar For Virat Kohli Form: Barring the Perth Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, many of the veteran players of the Indian team are not in full form. The entire team seems to be dependent on Jasprit Bumrah every time. Neither Rohit Sharma nor Virat Kohli are able to show their magic. Virat Kohli is in the news these days regarding his form. Recently, his poor shot selection in the Brisbane Test once again became the cause of criticism. He was caught out while trying to play a shot on the ball going outside the off stump. Due to this, veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar raised questions on Kohli’s batting. But Virat’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma rejected these criticisms outright and also gave a befitting reply to Gavaskar.
Rajkumar’s befitting reply to Gavaskar
Speaking to PTI, Rajkumar Sharma said, “Sunil Gavaskar is a great player of Indian cricket and his suggestions always matter. But my hope is that he gives similar advice to other players as well.”
Rajkumar Sharma defended Virat Kohli’s performance and said, “It would be unfair to call Virat Kohli out of form on the basis of just two bad innings. He has scored a brilliant century in the Perth Test. How many players have scored a century in this series? Virat’s performance since 2008 has been consistently excellent, it is unfair to call him out of form.
Rajkumar Sharma praised Kohli
Statistics tell something else about Virat Kohli. Since the Bangladesh series till now, Kohli’s performance in the first innings has not been as per expectations. He has scored only 73 runs in the last 8 innings. On this the coach said, “I don’t pay much attention to statistics. A player like Virat will make a great comeback soon. He is one of the most consistent players in Indian cricket.”
Rajkumar Sharma also revealed that he has talked to Virat Kohli on this. However, he refused to share details of the conversation. The coach said, “Virat is neither technically weak nor mentally weak. He is a mature player and knows where mistakes are happening. He is capable of improving his own game.”
Rajkumar expects good performance from Kohli
Rajkumar Sharma expressed confidence that Virat Kohli will make a strong comeback in this series. He said, “You will see a change in his batting very soon. He is a brilliant player and will answer criticism with his performance.”
