Basit Ali on Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir: The problems of the Indian team are increasing in the Gabba Test being played in Brisbane. Captain Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss proved wrong. Australia scored 445 runs in the first innings on the basis of excellent batting by Steve Smith and Travis Head. Except Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah, no other bowler could make an impact. Bumrah managed the team to some extent by taking six wickets, but Australia has completely strengthened its hold in the match.
Former Pakistani batsman Basit Ali has raised a big question on the strategy and performance of Team India. He said on his YouTube channel that a major reason for the unstable performance of the Indian team is the lack of coordination between captain Rohit Sharma and coach Gautam Gambhir. Basit Ali said, “Whether it is Sri Lanka’s ODI tournament or the New Zealand series, Rohit and Gambhir are not seen on the same page. This was not the case between Rahul Dravid and Rohit, they always worked on the same page.”
Basit Ali also raised questions on team selection and strategy. He said, “Australia has three left-handed batsmen in the batting order, yet why off-spinners like Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin were not selected in the playing-11? Instead Ravindra Jadeja was fielded, who was not able to stop the Australian batsmen.” Failed.”
Basit Ali further said, “The Indian team is dependent on Jasprit Bumrah only. Other bowlers are not able to perform like that. Apart from this, the absence of a left arm fast bowler in the team is also a big weakness.”
The decision to bowl first after winning the toss in the Gabba Test also proved costly for the Indian team. Due to rain and clouds on the first day, Rohit chose to bowl, but the Indian bowlers could not take advantage of the initial help. Steve Smith and Travis Head put Team India on the backfoot by making a partnership of 241 runs.
Indian batting also faltered on the third day. The wickets of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal fell early. Apart from KL Rahul (30*), no batsman could survive. Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood shook the Indian batting order and took the score to 48/4.
