Gavaskar-Hayden’s viral gossip
After the defeat in Adelaide Test, the discussion on the strategy of the third Test has intensified. During this debate, an interesting incident of the conversation between Sunil Gavaskar and Matthew Hayden on Star Sports is making headlines. Sunil Gavaskar supported sending Rohit to open again for the third Test. He said, “Rohit likes to play with the new ball. Rahul should be sent to No. 6 so that he can face the second new ball. I am sure that India will play so well in the next match that Rahul will get this opportunity.”
Matthew Hayden advocated KL Rahul to continue opening. But, he took the name of “Rahul Dravid” by mistake. He said, “Technically Rahul Dravid is absolutely perfect. He just has to stay at the crease for a long time.” On this mistake of Matthew Hayden, Sunil Gavaskar immediately quipped, “I wish it was Rahul Dravid. But here we are talking about KL Rahul.”
Upon realizing his mistake, Matthew Hayden laughingly apologized. He said, “I’m sorry, I was thinking of Rahul Dravid’s innings in 2003/04, when he beat us in Adelaide. That’s still a nightmare for me.”
Dravid’s historic innings
It is noteworthy that in 2003/04, Rahul Dravid played a memorable inning of 233 runs in Adelaide. He made a partnership of 303 runs with VVS Laxman, due to which India won for the first time in Australia.
