Boeing Layoffs: America’s aircraft manufacturing company Boeing is going to lay off 2500 of its employees. The company is going to make these layoffs in the American states of Washington, Oregon, South Carolina and Missouri. Boeing is trapped in huge debt and due to this the company will lay off about 10 percent of its global workforce i.e. 17000 people. The company has given this information in the necessary regulatory filings. Another round of layoffs can be done in the month of December.
According to Bloomberg report, notice has been issued to 2200 employees in Washington regarding layoffs. Whereas in South Carolina, notice has been served to 220 workers. These are two states where Boeing manufactures commercial airliners. However, Boeing has refused to say anything regarding this layoff.
Aerospace sector giant Boeing on Wednesday informed American workers affected by layoffs that under the regulatory rules of notifying employees at least 60 days before the end of employment, they will remain on Boeing’s payroll till January 17. Will stay. It was already expected that Boeing would send a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) in mid-November. Another round of layoffs is expected in the month of December. To reduce the workforce, Boeing is also considering reduction in the number of employees, selective hiring and sales of subsidiary companies.
In October 2024, Boeing’s new CEO Kelly Ortberg had said that the company will not remove workers from production and engineering labs. People in the industry were waiting for the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification to know what impact this layoff would have on the company’s major manufacturing hubs. However, hundreds of engineers and production workers have been laid off last week itself.
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace said 438 Boeing union members have been served layoff notices, including 218 engineers and 220 technicians. These layoffs have come when Boeing is going to restart the production of its best-selling 737MAX aircraft. Recently, 33,000 US West Coast workers went on strike for weeks, due to which aircraft production was affected.
