Birthday Special Rakhee Gulzar: Born on 15 August 1947 in Ranaghat, West Bengal, Rakhi Gulzar’s life is an inspirational story of Indian cinema. The special thing is that she was born on the day when India got independence. Born in a poor family, Rakhi’s life made her face many struggles, but she never gave up.
Rakhi married Ajay Vishwas, a journalist and film director, at the age of just 16. However, their marriage broke down soon and they got divorced at the age of 18. Getting a divorce was not easy for any woman at that time, but Rakhi faced it.
Rakhi Gulzar’s film career
In 1967, Rakhee started her career with the Bengali film ‘Bodhu Boron’. With this film, she entered the world of acting. After this, she debuted in Bollywood and worked with Dharmendra in Rajshri Production’s film ‘Jeevan-Mrityu’. During this time she met the famous lyricist Gulzar. Initially they became friends and later turned into love. In 1973, Rakhee and Gulzar got married, from whom she has a daughter, Meghna Gulzar.
After the birth of Meghna, challenges started coming in the life of Rakhi and Gulzar. During the marriage, it was stipulated that Rakhi would not work in films. But, Rakhi soon decided to return to films, which increased the conflict between her and Gulzar. According to media reports, during the shooting of a film in Kashmir, there was a dispute between Gulzar and Rakhi, due to which Gulzar beat her. This incident further increased the tension in their relationship.
Rakhi Gulzar stayed away from the limelight
Even after years, Rakhi Gulzar made her mark in Bollywood and worked in many hit films. Her major films include ‘Mere Sajna’, ‘Angaare’, ‘Kabhi Kabhi’, ‘Doosra Aadmi’, ‘Kasme Vaade’, ‘Kaala Patthar’ and ‘Shriman Shrimati’ apart from ‘Karan Arjun’. However, despite success in film career, her personal life was full of challenges. Differences with Gulzar led to her divorce and they went a separate way.
Today, Rakhi Gulzar lives alone at her farm house in Panvel near Mumbai. She has largely distanced herself from public life and has little contact with the media. Despite the ups and downs in her acting and personal life during her career, Rakhi has always created a new identity with struggle.
