Lord Dada: It is difficult to predict when someone will fall from the heights to the ground in the film industry. It does not take long to get fame here and it does not take long for the star of fortune to go into trouble. There have been many such stars who ruled the world of acting and earned a lot of name and fame. But, their last days were spent in poverty. Today we will tell you about one such superstar who earned a lot of wealth and lived a luxurious life but then he was completely ruined. In the period of poverty, he had to sell everything and then he died in poverty.
The superstar spent his last days in a chawl
This actor was none other than Bhagwan Dada. Bhagwan Dada was born in the house of a textile mill worker. In the early days, he also worked as a labourer, but he loved acting since childhood. Then he entered Bollywood with the film ‘Criminal’. In his film career, Bhagwan Dada worked in many hit films like ‘Bahadur’ and ‘Kisan’. His film ‘Albela’ proved to be a superhit at the box office and he became a superstar.
Bhagwan Dada, who gave many hit films, not only earned name and fame in his career, but also accumulated a lot of wealth. But there came a time when he was completely ruined. In the 1940s and 50s, the financial condition of this actor had become so bad that he had to spend his last days in a chawl in Mumbai.
Bhagwan Dada lived a luxurious life
Bhagwan Dada had earned a lot of money. He was included in the list of the richest actors. He had everything – a 25-room sea-facing bungalow, 7 luxury cars and servants. Bhagwan Dada also earned a lot of fame as an actor and director. After Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor, he was the one who charged the highest fees at that time, but he was also addicted to gambling and alcohol.
After achieving a lot of success, bad times came
Bhagwan Dada made his mark by playing small roles in the 40s. In 1942, he founded Jagriti Productions and became a producer. Making films away from mainstream cinema was his passion. Raj Kapoor also convinced him for this. In 1951, he made ‘Albela’ which proved to be a big hit of that era. He became very famous after the song ‘Shola Jo Bhadke’. After this, he gave blockbuster films like ‘Jhamela’ and ‘Bhaagm Bhaag’. But then came the time when success started slipping from his hands.
Bhagwan Dada was ruined because of a film
It is said that when he made the film ‘Haste Rehna’, it proved to be his biggest mistake. Bhagwan Dada had put everything at stake for this film but he had to stop the film in the middle, due to which he had to sell everything he had. He was almost completely ruined.
By the 60s, Bhagwan Dada had started playing character roles. He had to sell everything to run his household. Eventually, he sold his bungalow and started living in a chawl in Dadar. Then came a time when the industry completely forgot him and he was lost in the darkness of obscurity. He died of a heart attack in 2002.
