IPL Mega vs Mini Auction: Preparations for IPL 2025 mega auction are in full swing and with it the level of excitement among cricket lovers has also increased. Many big changes are expected in this mega auction, which includes new rules of retention and the return of some old exciting rules. Along with this, the possibility of many big players entering the auction has made this auction even more special. But along with mega auction, there is also mini auction and there are many important differences between the two, about which it is important to know. Let us know what are the three big differences between these two.
- Use of Right to Match Card
In the mega auction, teams are allowed to use Right to Match cards (RTM cards), through which they can bring back a player released in the auction by bidding equal to the highest bid. But there is no such option in mini auction. The RTM card is available only during the mega auction, but this time there has been a slight change in it, making it even more exciting. - Change in retention rules
Retention rules are also a major difference between mega and mini auctions. In the mega auction, teams are allowed to retain a maximum of 6 players, with a 5+1 policy applicable. This means that teams can retain 5 capped (Indian or foreign) and 1 uncapped player. Whereas in the mini auction, there is no specific limit on retention, but players are sold at a higher price due to fewer slots. - trade window gap
The biggest difference is the trade window. There were rumors of a trade window for Mega Auction 2025, but this is not true. The trade window is only available during the mini auction. This window opens one month after the end of the IPL season and runs till a week before the mini auction. It opens again after the auction and closes a month before the new season. On the other hand, there is no provision for a trade window during the mega auction.
