CAS Verdict on Vinesh Phogat: 6th August was the day when Vinesh Phogat entered the finals by defeating Cuban wrestler Yusnelis Guzman. As soon as Vinesh reached the finals, the whole of India started celebrating in the hope of a gold medal, but the very next day everything changed. On the day of the final match, Vinesh’s weight was found to be 100 grams more than the set standards, due to which she was disqualified from the Olympics. Vinesh appealed to CAS and after the hearing, finally its decision is going to come on 13th August i.e. today.
What has happened so far?
Vinesh Phogat had earlier filed an appeal in CAS to allow her to play in the final match to be held on 7 August, but it was rejected. But her second appeal, that is, to be given the silver medal, was accepted. 4 foreign lawyers were selected on behalf of Vinesh, while after that Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania were also sent to help Vinesh in the case. Vidushpat Singhania himself has clarified in an interview to ANI that the hearing was held on 9 August.
Let us remind you that after the decision was postponed on August 10, 3 questions were asked to Vinesh Phogat. The first question was whether Vinesh was aware of the rule that she would have to weigh in the next day as well? The second question asked whether the Cuban wrestler would share the silver medal with her? The third and last question was whether Vinesh wanted the decision on this issue in a confidential manner or in a public manner.
What time will the decision come?
Actually, the decision on this matter was to come on August 10 at 9:30 pm. But considering the seriousness of the matter, the time for the decision was extended to August 13. Now the decision is to come on August 13 i.e. tonight at 9:30 pm. Vidushpat Singhania has expressed hope that the decision will come in favor of Vinesh.
