In an interview to Navbharat Times, Jaya told that away from acting, she was working behind the camera. She used to write shows and work with producers and help them. Jaya said- I stay in an animal center during holidays. I have an NGO which works for animals. I want to build a hospital for animals and stay there.

Jaya further said- When the entire village was washed away by the flood in Srinagar, I did not have any money. I wanted to help the people there. For this, I knitted sweaters, made shawls and shoes at home and sent them to those people with the help of an army friend of mine. I keep myself busy. I do not like to rest. I enjoy working. I have also stitched many frocks and designer curtains.
