BCCI to Meet IPL Owners on Player Retention and Salary Cap Agenda: Many changes can be seen in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). For this, the much awaited meeting between the IPL team owners and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be held soon at the end of this month. According to sources, the BCCI has asked the team owners to be available for the meeting to be held on July 30 or 31, although the exact date has not been confirmed yet. The meeting will be held at the BCCI’s new furnished office inside the Wankhede Stadium complex in Mumbai. It usually takes place in five-star hotels, but this time the BCCI has decided to invite the owners to its new office.
main agenda of the meeting
The main agenda of this meeting will be player retention and salary cap. There are different opinions among the franchises regarding the number of retentions. Some believe that the number of retentions should be eight to maintain the continuity of the teams, as this will help the franchise to build a team with its key players. It is also important for fan engagement and brand building.
At the same time, some franchises argue that the number of retentions should be minimal. Apart from this, there is also discussion on including the Right to Match (RTM) option in the mega-auction. The BCCI met the franchises earlier this month through IPL CEO Hemang Amin to know their opinion on this important issue.
The meeting will also discuss the salary cap, which is expected to be around Rs 120 crore in the first year of the next three-year cycle. Along with this, the retention value of each player will also be considered. Earlier, the top retention was around 16-17 percent of the salary cap, which was Rs 15 crore in the salary cap of Rs 90 crore.
If this principle is applied, then this time the salary of the top retention player can be around Rs 20 crore. However, this is still in the phase of speculation. It is expected that BCCI will tell the formula for deciding the salary of retention players in this meeting.
