ICC 2025 Champions Trophy, BCCI, PCB: The controversy over the 2025 Champions Trophy is showing no end. Now about two months are left for the start of this tournament, but still the picture regarding the venue of the tournament is not clear. Actually, Pakistan is hosting this global tournament. In such a situation, it was already decided that Team India would not go there under any circumstances, but still PCB was adamant on holding this tournament in their country. However, in the end the Pakistan Board had to kneel down and accept BCCI’s words. The Indian board had offered a hybrid model for this tournament, because due to security reasons the Indian team cannot go to Pakistan. Along with agreeing to this, PCB had put forward some conditions, on which BCCI has sent its reply to ICC.
According to a report in The Telegraph, BCCI has clearly refused to accept PCB’s condition. The BCCI has sent a clear message to ICC officials regarding PCB’s demands (about Pakistan playing at neutral venues in future), the report said, adding that since there is no security threat in India, such an arrangement can be accepted. There is no question of doing it.
This means that BCCI has said that there is no security threat to the Pakistan team in India. The situation here is not like Pakistan. In such a situation, the question of any ICC tournament being played in India in hybrid model does not arise. In such a situation, it would not be wrong to call it Pakistan’s defeat once again. Earlier, PCB was opposing the hybrid model, but in the end it had to accept the demand of BCCI.
What is hybrid model?
Hybrid model in cricket is called when a cricket tournament is played in two countries instead of one country, but it is hosted by only one country. In the 2025 Champions Trophy, Team India will play its matches in Dubai (possible country) or in some other country, but the hosting of the tournament will remain entirely with Pakistan. In cricket, a similar model is called hybrid model. Earlier, the 2023 Asia Cup was also played in the hybrid model.
The decision will come on 5th December
If media reports are to be believed, there will be an ICC meeting tomorrow i.e. Thursday, 5th December, in which senior officials of both BCCI and PCB boards will attend. A final decision on the Champions Trophy dispute can be taken in this meeting. It is worth noting that a meeting was also held last Tuesday (29 November), in which no decision could be taken. It was told in many reports that the last meeting could last only for 15 minutes.
