At the same time, some owners attended the meeting through video conference. Although no official confirmation has been made by the BCCI, but let us know what happened in this meeting and what decisions were considered?
Will there be IPL 2025 mega auction or not?
The most important issue in the meeting between BCCI and team owners was the IPL 2025 mega auction. According to a Cricbuzz report, Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan and Sunrisers Hyderabad co-owner Kavya Maran were among those who directly opposed the mega auction. KKR and SRH were the winners and runners-up of IPL 2024 respectively, but the BCCI has not yet given any formal decision on the views of these teams.
Expressing disappointment, Kavya said – It takes a lot of time to build a strong squad. As discussed in the discussion, a lot of time has to be invested in making young players mature. Abhishek Sharma took 3 years to bring consistency in his performance. You all will agree with me that many such examples will be found in other teams as well.
Team owners divided into factions over retention rules
There was a lot of debate about retention rules in this meeting. One news also said that KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan clashed with Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia over retention rules. On one hand, Shah Rukh wants all franchises to be allowed to retain more players, but Ness Wadia has supported the rule of retaining fewer players. According to the current circumstances, teams will be allowed to retain only 3-4 players in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
