Ajay Ratra Joins BCCI Selection Committee: The BCCI has announced that Ajay Ratra has been appointed as the selector of the men’s cricket team. He has replaced Salil Ankola in the five-member selection committee and will formally take over his role from next Thursday. This decision has been taken just before the start of the Duleep Trophy 2024.
Ajay Ratra hails from Haryana and has been a wicketkeeper batsman who played 6 Tests and 12 ODIs for India. BCCI said in its official statement that Ajay’s domestic and international track record has been very good. He played 99 matches in his first-class career, in which he has 4,029 runs to his name. During this time he also played 8 centuries and 17 half-century innings.
What will be Ajay Ratra’s role?
As a selector, Ajay Ratra will work closely with the four other members of the selection committee. All these members will work together to find new talent who can be seen taking charge of Team India in the future. Ratra has a lot of experience in coaching. He has worked as a coach for Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab teams. He was also seen in the coaching staff of Team India during the ODI series against South Africa in 2023.
Tenure may start with the series against Bangladesh
India is going to host Bangladesh team in the month of September, where 2 Tests and three T20 matches will be played between the two teams. Ajay Ratra can make a significant contribution in the selection of Team India for this series. After that India has to play Border-Gavaskar Trophy with New Zealand, then Australia.
