IPL Auction Rule For Overseas Players: Before the IPL Mega Auction 2025, BCCI and IPL Governing Council have issued retention and other rules. After the meeting, the IPL Governing Council decided to increase the amount of teams for the auction. Now IPL teams will be able to spend up to Rs 120 crore in the auction. Also, IPL teams will be able to retain 6 of their players and will have Right to Match card, but apart from this there will be strict rules for foreign players. After this new rule, foreign players will have to be available for the entire season.
After the new rule of BCCI, now registration has been made mandatory for foreign players every time before the mega auction. If foreign players fail to do so, they will be declared ineligible for the auction. Apart from this, if a team buys a player in the auction and that player declares himself unavailable before the start of the season, then that player will not be allowed to participate in the tournament. Also, that player will not have the right to participate in the auction for 2 seasons.
Over the past several years, there have been instances when foreign players made themselves unavailable for the season before the start of the tournament, citing minor personal reasons. This has a negative impact on the strategy and game plan of the IPL team. In view of this, BCCI has taken a strict decision. Now foreign players will have to follow BCCI guidelines for IPL at all costs. It is believed that after the new decision of BCCI, it will be easier for IPL teams to make strategies.
