Balwinder Sandhu on Jasprit Bumrah: An incident from the Sydney Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is still in the minds of the fans. That is the incident of Jasprit Bumrah, when he remained out of the field due to back pain. Once, he was even seen leaving the stadium in his car in the middle of the match. After this incident, it is being said that due to Bumrah not being fit, India had to face defeat by six wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Australia achieved the target of 162 runs in just 27 overs and Bumrah kept hiding his disappointment by sitting in the dugout.
This defeat was a big blow for India, because it dashed its hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship 2025. At the same time, Australia confirmed its place and won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since 2015.
Former Indian cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner Balwinder Sandhu believes that if Bumrah had been fit, India could have won this match. Sandhu said, “Bumrah is a wicket-taking bowler. Had he been there, it would have created problems for Australia. Despite this small target, Bumrah could have led India to victory.”
Balwinder Sandhu also recalled a historic moment of the great Kapil Dev, when he led India to victory despite being injured against Australia in 1981. Sandhu said, “Kapil had led India to victory with his courage at that time too. Bumrah is also a similar bowler. If he had been fit, the result of the match could have been in our favor.”
Balwinder Sandhu also criticized India’s star batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Sandhu said, “There were high expectations from Rohit and Virat, but their performance was disappointing. If they had played a little better, India could have won the match.”
