According to the ‘Global Burden of Disease Study’, the leading cause of death among women in India is heart disease, which accounts for about 18% of all women deaths. Despite this alarming statistic, the symptoms of heart disease in women are often misunderstood, underestimated or completely ignored.

Shortness of breath is one of the most common symptoms reported by women experiencing a heart attack. Surprisingly, this often occurs without chest pain. Dr. Mohan explains, sometimes, women deny having chest pain, but they mention severe problems in breathing even after light exertion like walking or climbing stairs. It is not easy to ignore this respiratory problem.
fatigue and sleep disturbances
Excessive fatigue, especially if it is different from normal or not related to physical exertion, may be a sign of a heart problem. Women may also have difficulty sleeping, which can be an early warning sign. Research funded by the British Heart Foundation also confirms this.
Discomfort behind the breastbone
Instead of sharp pain, women may feel a feeling of heaviness, tightness, or pressure behind the breastbone. This restlessness is often confused with indigestion, nausea or anxiety.
