Imtiaz wanted to take an experienced actress for the highway
In a conversation with Komal Nahata for Game Changers, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali revealed that initially he wanted to take a more experience actress for the highway. He believed that around 30 age, the actress was definitely there for this role. However, everything changed after meeting Alia. Despite being 18 years old at that time, Alia had emotional depth and charm which was the demand for a character. Imtiaz admitted that she had not seen the Student of the Year, but her natural presence assured her that she was ‘brilliant for this role’.
Alia was afraid to do the highway
Imtiaz further revealed that Mahesh Bhatt played an important role in persuading Gangubai Kathiawadi actress to work in the highway. He told, “I used to go to her house and Bhatt Saheb was trying to convince her to do this work, she was a little scared because she was in every scene. She suspected whether she would be able to do this work because it was not an easy film.” However, later at the behest of father Mahesh Bhatt, he highwayed the highway and it became his iconic film.
