It has been more than a year since Rs 2000 notes were banned in India, but 3 crore 46 lakh notes are still present in the market. This means that despite the ban on ₹2000 notes, all the notes have not yet been returned. The Minister of State for Finance has given this information in response to a question asked in Parliament. Let us tell you that till March 31, 2017, 32,850 lakh ₹ 2000 banknotes were in circulation. By March 31, 2018, 33,632 lakh bank notes had come into circulation. On May 19, 2023, when (RBI) announced the withdrawal of ₹ 2000 notes from the market, 17,793 lakh ₹ 2000 bank notes were left in circulation in the market.
