PM Kisan Samman Yojana: Amid the ongoing farmers’ agitation, the Parliamentary Committee has suggested the government to increase the limit of amount given to farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana from Rs 6000 to Rs 12000 annually. The Standing Committee headed by Charanjit Singh Channi, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee attached to the Agriculture Ministry, has submitted its recommendations to the government.
Recommendation to increase PM Kisan Fund to Rs 12000
On Tuesday, 17 December 2024, Charanjit Singh Channi presented the first Demand for Grants of the 18th Lok Sabha regarding the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in the Lok Sabha. In this report, the Standing Committee of Parliament associated with the Ministry of Agricultural Welfare has recommended doubling the limit of the amount given to farmers under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. The report said, the committee recommends that the limit of the amount given under PM Kisan Samman Yojana should be increased from Rs 6000 to Rs 12000 annually.
Farmers will get a gift in the budget!
This is not the first time that the government has been demanded to increase the amount of assistance given to farmers under PM Kisan Nidhi. For the last several years, representatives of farmers have also made this demand before the Finance Minister in the pre-budget meeting. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget for 2025-26 on February 1, 2025. Based on the recommendation received from the Parliamentary Committee, there are speculations that an increase in the limit of amount given under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi may be announced in the budget.
Farmers got Rs 3.45 lakh crore under PM Kisan Yojana
Even before the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, it was expected that the amount of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana would be increased but it did not happen. In the budget presented on February 1, 2019, before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the then Finance Minister Piyush Goyal had announced the launch of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana. Under PM Kisan Yojana, small and medium farmers are given Rs 6000 annually in three installments. Under this scheme, money is transferred to the bank accounts of farmers through direct transfer. So far, Rs 3.45 lakh crore has been transferred to the bank accounts of farmers in 18 installments.
