Internet Speed Issue in Pakistan: Pakistan is among the most backward countries in the world in terms of mobile internet speed and now the situation here has become even worse. There has been internet slowdown here for the last few weeks, due to which people are neither able to share any file nor download anything. People are receiving text messages on WhatsApp, but they are not able to download any photo or video. Along with mobile internet, Wi-Fi is also not working. The government here says that it will take 3 months to fix this problem.
Why did internet speed slow down in Pakistan?
Pakistan is ranked 100th out of 111 countries in terms of mobile internet speed and 141st out of 158 in terms of broadband speed. Now the situation here has become worse because the Pakistani government is installing a national internet firewall made in China. In this, the government is going to install some hardware and software to control and monitor internet traffic. It will work like a digital gatekeeper.
This national firewall is also being installed on the servers of internet service providing companies. With its help, the government will get control to detect and slow down digital communication between people.
“It will take 3 months for the problem to go away”
Pakistan Software Houses Association chief Sajjad Mustafa Saeed said that the internet speed issue would be resolved within three months. He further said that if you receive a text message on WhatsApp and do not see a photo, it means that monitoring is going on.
Trials were held in July-August
The Pakistani government has also officially confirmed that it is upgrading the ‘Web Management System’. For this he did the first trial in July and the second in August. Even then the internet speed was affected, but the reason was not given then.
