On December 11, 2024, Sanjay Malhotra was welcomed at the RBI headquarters as the newly elected Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and officially assumed his charge. He is going to take charge of the central bank at a time when the economy is facing the dual challenge of slow growth rate and high inflation rate.

Sanjay Malhotra has taken over as the new Governor of RBI at the age of 56 and his tenure will be for three years. On Monday evening, the Central Government had nominated him to be the Governor of the Central Bank and today he has replaced the outgoing Governor Shaktikanta Das.

Know about Sanjay Malhotra
Malhotra, a 1990 batch IAS officer from Rajasthan, has over three decades of experience in public policy with expertise in areas such as power, finance and taxation. Before becoming the Governor of Reserve Bank of India, Sanjay Malhotra was working as Revenue Secretary in the Finance Ministry. Apart from this, before this he was holding the post of Secretary, Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance.
