North-Western Railways: Clean, hygienic and high quality bedrolls are being provided in AC class coaches in all the trains operated by North Western Railways. According to Captain Shashi Kiran, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, all bedsheets and pillow covers are washed and ironed in the mechanized laundry after every use to ensure a comfortable, hygienic and safe journey by providing clean bedrolls to the passengers. He informed that mechanized laundries have been established in Udaipur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Sriganganagar, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Barmer. Their capacity is being continuously increased.
Blankets of North Western Railway are washed once in a few days.
He said that in October 2023, the capacity of clothes washed in these laundries has been increased from 20 tonnes per day to 56 tonnes per day. There is a plan to increase this capacity to 10 tonnes per day in January 2025 and 14 tonnes per day in March 2025. Captain Shashi Kiran said that the washing of blankets was done once in three months in 2010, but the period has been reduced to once in two months since 2010 and currently once in 30 days.
Every passenger is given two sheets – North Western Railways
He told that every passenger in the AC coach is given two sheets by the Railways, one of which is used to spread on the seat and the other to be used as a blanket cover. Apart from this, the temperature of the AC coach is also kept around 24 degrees Celsius so that there is no need for a blanket and the sheet is sufficient.
Continuous reduction in complaints of dirty or torn bedrolls – North Western Railways
There is a steady decline in the complaints of non-availability of bedrolls and dirty or torn bedrolls on North-Western Railway. Last year, between April 2023 and October 2023, a total of 5181 complaints were registered in all four divisions, whereas this year between April and October 2024, the number of complaints decreased by about 15 percent to 4529. He told that the sheets and blankets are also changed after some time and new linen sets are purchased.
Use of high quality products in mechanized laundries – Railways
He said that even in mechanized laundries, high quality materials are used for cleaning and constant monitoring is maintained by CCTV and staff. Whiteometer is used to check the quality of washed clothes. The official said that war rooms have been set up to monitor the complaints received at the North-Western Railway Headquarters and divisional level Rail Aid and other complaints, which continuously monitor the complaints and feedback of the passengers round the clock.
