Venkatesh Iyer IPL 2025 Price: Venkatesh Iyer, one name who has left no stone unturned to create a sensation in the IPL 2025 mega auction. On one hand, the cricket world was surprised by the fact that KL Rahul was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) for just Rs 14 crore, whereas the bid for him was expected to be Rs 20-25 crore. But KKR has spent a lot of money on Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer. KKR has bought Venkatesh by paying a huge amount of not just Rs 2 or Rs 4 crore but Rs 23.75 crore. In such a situation, questions are being raised as to why Venkatesh Iyer has been sold at such a high price?
Venkatesh Iyer was the third most expensive player in the IPL 2025 mega auction after Rishabh Pant (27 crore) and Shreyas Iyer (26.75 crore). Kolkata Knight Riders Managing Director Venky Mysore said that his priority was to strengthen the foundation of the team. In this team, KKR management has also included famous South African players like Quinton de Kock and Enrique Norkhia.
Why was Venkatesh Iyer sold so expensively?
Venky Mysore, while explaining the reason for the Rs 23.75 crore bid on Venkatesh Iyer, had said, “Auctions often surprise you. The most important thing is what kind of player you want and how he can fit in your team. The price must remain within a certain range, but the auction process often proves to be surprising.” He also told that the salary cap is increasing, hence the bids placed on players will definitely increase. KKR wanted to strengthen the base of its team by bringing in old players.
Why did the demand for Venkatesh Iyer increase?
The demand for Venkatesh Iyer has also increased because especially in the last two seasons, he has been seen batting in the upper order for KKR. Playing for Kolkata in the last 2 seasons, he has scored 774 runs in 28 matches, which also includes one century and 6 fifties. He batted at a strike rate of around 159 in IPL 2024.
