Samsung Strike: There is hope that the strike that has been going on for almost a month will end at Samsung’s Sriperumbudur Plant located near Chennai. The management of Samsung Electronics has found a middle path and announced a special incentive of Rs 5000 every month for the employees. Apart from this, many steps will also be taken to improve working conditions. However, here too there is a catch that the company has not included the employee union CITU, which is leading the strike, in this agreement.

Samsung said on Monday that we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Workman Committee to end the strike. Under this, they will be given Productivity Stabilization Incentive every month between October, 2024 to March, 2025. Both parties have agreed to make the Chennai factory an efficient workplace. We will continue to hold talks with the employees and make efforts to resolve their problems. During this period, discussion regarding salary will also continue. In case of unfortunate death of an employee, Samsung will provide immediate relief of Rs 1 lakh to his/her family. Also, AC buses currently running on 5 routes will be started on all 108 routes by next year.
The union leading the strike is not included in the agreement
But, the biggest question on this agreement is that the Center of Indian Trade Unions, which is leading the strike, is not a part of it. In such a situation, there is still doubt about its success. A day earlier, the Tamil Nadu government had taken the responsibility of ending the strike and had appointed three of its ministers for this work. These included TRB Rajaa, TM Anbarasan and CV Ganesan. He had talked to all the stakeholders regarding the agreement.
Strike is going on in Chennai plant since 9th September
About 1,750 employees work in this Samsung plant. Of these, about 1,100 people have been on strike since September 9. Their demand is that the salary should be increased. Working hours should be improved and their union CITU should be recognized. In this case, recently about 900 striking employees who were taking out a rally were detained. Samsung has also approached the court to stop the strike. Besides, the employees were also given notice to fire them. Recently information came to light that the company had sent chocolates to these employees. Due to this strike, Samsung has suffered a big blow during the festive season.
