Vinesh Phogat Silver Medal Verdict: Vinesh Phogat will have to wait longer for the silver medal. Her decision has been postponed. Vinesh was disqualified before the gold medal match of Paris Olympics 2024. Indian wrestler Vinesh had appealed to CAS regarding this. Their decision was to come around 9.30 pm on Tuesday. But now it will come on August 16.
Actually Vinesh had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) for the silver medal. CAS heard the matter on 9th August. During this time, Indian Olympic Association’s senior lawyer Harish Salve represented Vinesh. Vinesh was disqualified due to overweight. Her weight was found to be 100 grams more. Now Vinesh is demanding a joint silver medal.
What was the whole matter regarding Vinesh’s weight –
Vinesh was fighting in the 50 kg category in Paris Olympics 2024. She had secured the silver medal with a strong performance. But she was disqualified even before the gold medal match. Vinesh was just 100 grams overweight. She worked hard overnight to reduce her weight. She even got her hair cut. But still her weight remained 100 grams more.
Vinesh showed her strength in Paris Olympics –
Vinesh defeated Cuban wrestler Guzman Lopez in the semi-finals. She defeated Oksana Livach of Ukraine in the quarter-finals. Vinesh defeated Japan’s Susaki in the pre-quarterfinals. But she was disqualified before the gold medal match.

Vinesh has had a great performance so far. She also performed well in the Paris Olympics. Vinesh has won 3 gold medals in the Commonwealth Games. She won gold in 2014, 2018 and 2022. She won gold in the Asian Games 2018 and bronze in 2014. She has won gold in the Asian Championship 2021.
