India vs Australia Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024: The Indian cricket team understands the importance of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 very well. After the 0-3 defeat in the Test series against New Zealand, India is on the verge of being out of the race for the World Test Championship Final (WTC Final 2025). Now, if Team India has to reach the final without depending on anyone, then it will have to register at least four wins in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024). But at present there are many flaws in the Indian team, which can become the reason for its defeat.
1. Poor form of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
Nothing is clear yet whether Rohit Sharma will play the first test or not. But even after his return, it may not make much difference to Team India because in the last 10 Test innings he has scored only 133 runs, out of which only one half-century has come. On the other hand, the condition of Virat Kohli is also similar, who has scored only 250 runs in 12 innings this year. Recently, Ricky Ponting had mentioned that Kohli’s Test average this year is only 22.73, which is really a matter of concern for Team India.
2. Absence of Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami has returned to the field a year after his injury in the 2023 World Cup. Apart from taking 7 wickets in 2 innings, he also contributed 39 runs in batting for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy match. Shami’s comeback was excellent, but due to not being fully fit, he is not a part of the Indian squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Shami has been very effective in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and has taken 40 wickets in 11 matches. He has taken 31 wickets after playing 8 matches in Australia, but these records seem to be in vain because Shami’s chances of playing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy are negligible. Shami’s presence would not only provide experience to the Indian bowling but the team would also get a wicket-taking bowler.
3. Team India under pressure
Just before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024, the Indian team has suffered a crushing defeat of 0-3 in the Test series at the hands of New Zealand at its own home. Before leaving for the Australian tour, head coach Gautam Gambhir had said that there is no pressure on him and the team and the team will give its best performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. But when a team gets the shock of defeat in a home series after 12 years, then even the top teams of the world can disintegrate under mental pressure. At the same time, the pressure of the World Test Championship final can also become the reason for the defeat of the Indian team.
