F&O Traders Loss: 1.13 crore traders trading in derivatives i.e. futures and options in the stock market lost Rs 1.81 lakh crore. In the financial year 2023-24 alone, investors have suffered a loss of Rs 75000 crore due to trading in futures trading. Stock market regulator SEBI has released a report on the profit and loss incurred by investors on trading in the derivatives segment of equity.
Investors lost nearly Rs 2 lakh crore!
SEBI has prepared a report on the profits and losses incurred by investors on trading in the derivatives segment of equity during the three-year period from FY 2021-22 to FY 2023-24. In the report, SEBI said that during these three financial years, 1.13 crore unique individual traders have lost their hard-earned money of Rs 1.81 lakh crore by trading in futures and options. Transaction cost has also been added to the loss incurred in trading.
Every trader loses an average of Rs 1.20 lakh
In the financial year 2023-24 itself, investors have suffered a loss of Rs 75000 crore. According to SEBI, 91.1 percent of individual traders, which number 73 lakh traders, have lost money while trading in futures and options during the financial year 2023-24. Out of the 73 lakh traders who have suffered losses, each trader has suffered an average loss of Rs 1.20 lakh in 2023-24, in which transaction cost has also been included.
4 lakh traders lose an average of Rs 28 lakh
SEBI said in its report that the traders who suffered a loss of Rs 1 crore, which is 92.8 percent of the total traders, have suffered a loss of Rs 2 lakh in trading in futures and options in the last three financial years. Among the traders who lost money, 3.5 percent i.e. 4 lakh traders have suffered an average loss of Rs 28 lakh per person, which also includes transaction cost.
